Subject: Sun E450 - blank screen!! OS: Solaris 8 CPU/Ram: Dual
|
Comment: I have 2 E450s, and they're both scsi connected to a disk array. So I was trying to change the scsi-initiator-id and the nvramrc on one of the E450s via the OBP (ok>). After that, I did a reset-all and the screen has been blank ever since. Something's wrong with my nvramrc editting, but how do I change it now since I cannot get back to even the OBP (ok> prompt). Any hints?

Reply: Where [STOP] A will get you to the OK prompt, [STOP] N will reset the values to default. http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/General/OBP.html http://www.michaelh.com/comp/openboot.shtml http://sysunconfig.net/unixtips/SunOBP_Quick_Ref.pdf

Reply: Thank you David for the links. However, I really do have nothing on my screen, even after trying Stop-* ...nothing. Basically, right now when I turn the E450 on, it's just the fans going, no error lights or anything. I must have made a huge mistake it editting the nvramrc. Any sugestions to how I can get to the OK> prompt now?

Reply: So [STOP] N during the boot cycle didn't fix anything? Fall back to a serial console attached to the first serial port. Something like a wyse terminal if you have conventient hardware or you can use hyperterm on your pc. You will need to use a null modem cable for the connection. With this connection in place you should see the banner and all boot info through the serial console. Unplug the sun keyboard before you power it up this way.

Reply: David, Apologies for leaving this post for a while cuz I was on holiday. Well I tried as you said... 1) [STOP] N does NOT work. 2) I used a regular modem cable (25 pin male and 9 pin female) and attached to the 25 pin side a null modem converter. The 9 pin went into my desktop's COM1 port. I used Hyperterm to connect via console, unplugged the SUN keyboard, powered up the E450, but nothing appeared on my Hyperterm console screen. Could this be a Hyperterm settings problem, or something else? Regardless, I still have a blank screen when I boot up my E450. It doesn't even make the *beep* sounds. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thank you.
