Is the CPU module in the Ultra 1 series machines upgradable? If so, what modules fit his machine? Currently have a 167mhz Ultra Sparc

There is a limited upgrade path. If your mother board supports it, based on serial number, you can upgrade to 200 mhz. An ultra 2 is very similar with a better upgrade path.

You need to change the whole board. There is a 140/E 170/E which you have, and a 200E.
