Please could someone help if possible.

I recently installed solaris 8 onto a hard drive as instructed on many solaris vmware howto's. The drive works 100% native on it's own, when I try boot it up it gives me errors, the bios says the 20 gig drive is there.

Solaris boots I get the blue screen I press enter it goes through, but it starts to scan hardware again, simliar to the install scanning devices and then I must select which device to boot the solaris kernel from.

I select the hard disk and the following kind of errors appear.

mount: O such device or address
metainit: solaris there are no existing databases

/dev/dsk/c0d0s1: No suc device or address
The / file syste (/dev/rdsk/c0d0s0) is being checked

Can't open /dev/rdsk/c0d0s0
/dev/rdsk/c0d0s0: CAN'T CHECK FIL SYSTEm
/dev/rdsk/c0d0s0: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY: RUN fsck MANUALLY

and then goes onto tell me it can't repair the filesystem

Now this appears to me solaris can't see my drive.

Does any have a clue what the problem here is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Sean

I have had some experience with Solaris and VMware my conclusion is not that VMware can not see the drive, in actuality it can see the drive because it is telling you that that drive it expects to see is not what it found. So the problem more than likely is that VMware is no interpreting the Drive geometry properly, if you check VMware site they have a small but hard to find tip on installing Solaris, the tip seems to say that Vmware will only boot the Solaris OS if it is on its own physical drive. Check the site to see if this has changed or what the work around is.
