Subject: why don't ping the other machines?
OS: solaris 9 for x86
CPU/Ram: 586/256
Comment:

my machine for solaris 9 for x86 os is connected with a machine from window 2000 os by cable.
Network is as follows: my machine with solaris(192.0.6.90). Another window 2000 system(192.0.6.166)
From the solaris machine i write some commands as follows:
# ping 127.0.0.1 127.0.01 is alive
# ping 1ocalhost localhost is alive
# ping 192.0.6.90 192.0.6.90 is alive
# ping solaris solaris is alive
but
When i ping 192.0.6.166 no answer from 192.0.6.166

I notice there are packets going out and coming back from 192.0.6.166 by command netstat -i
I can get the result from the window 2000(192.0.6.166)
00:5c:38 broadcast ARP who is 192.0.6.166? tell 192.0.6.90
ae:70:03 00:5c:38 ARP 192.0.6.166 at 00:02:3f:ae:70:03

The line repeats 25 times

If i try to ping the solaris machine from window 2000 machine , i get request timed out.

If i run snoop and ping from another console window, i get
solaris -> (broadcast) ARP C who is 192.0.6.166, 192.0.6.166?
? -> * ETHER Type=3FAE(Unkown), size=60 bytes

This line repeats 25times

Why don't ping the window 2000 machine? where do the error locate?

# more /etc/hosts
# more /etc/hosts
127. 0.0.1 localhost
192.0.6.90 solaris loghost

#more /etc/netmasks
192.0.6.0 255.255.255.0

# ifconfig -a
lo0: flag=1000849....... MTU 8232 index 1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
sn0: flag=1000843..... mtu 1500 index 2
inet 192.0.6.90 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.0.6.255
ether 0:60:6e:0:5c:38

#netstat -rn
routing table :IPV4
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Inerface
192.0.6.90 192.0.6.90 U 1 12 sn0
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 34 11206 lo0

there no any defaultrouter!

And
i think acpi option don't the interrupt.i can receive packets in any mode(no or yes)

irq = 0x2814010b why is irq so big?
i think irq is limited between 1 and 12 in other os! but in solaris os irq is not the same!

Don't forget to specify the gateway to know your machine to transfer the packets...

#route add default <yourgateway>
