My win2ksbs server is using Arcserve to do backup. My problem is there will be once or twice in a month, the backup was incomplete. from the log file, it shows the error : "W3404 Unable to open file.(FILE=C:\WINNT\security\tmp.edb, EC=FILE NOT FOUND)" or "W3404 Unable to open file.(FILE=C:\WINNT\security\tmplates\policies\gpt00000.dom, EC=FILE NOT FOUND)" or "W3404 Unable to open file.(FILE=C:\WINNT\security\tmplates\policies\gpt00001.inf, EC=FILE NOT FOUND)" or W3404 Unable to open file.(FILE=C:\WINNT\security\tmplates\policies\tmpgptfl.inf, EC=FILE NOT FOUND).

I'm no idea what's these files are about. Can anyone help me to solve this problem?

Thank you.

A quick google showed up a few similar problems. It would seem the most likey thing is that between the time when Arcserve makes it list of files to backup and when it actually gets to that file it has been removed. So therefore you get a W3404 file not found error.
The files just appear to be group policy files, you could exclude this directory from your backup.

If your using a version similar to me then you should be able to modify your backup jobs. Expand the folders that are selected within the job until you find the C:\WINNT\security\tmplates\policies\ folder and deselect it. Then save or resubmit the job.
It's not really all that necessary, as even though you get a message saying that your backup is incomplete you'll find that everything else will be backed up and in a state where it is recoverable if necessary.
