ok so my friends computer went boom, so i am attempting to recover all her files onto my HDD, i already have it setup in my computer as a slave and blah blah blah, the only thing is that her profile has a password so i cannot copy her things or even access it, she is running XP on that HDD but i dont think that is a problem. how can i copy her stuff to my HDD all i want is her documents and settings thank you

could it be that your win2k is not setup as NTFS and her XP was? If you are running fat32 you won't be able to see a ntfs hard drive.

I have heard that you have to take ownership of files in this circumstance sometimes too.

Take ownership of the folder/files. You will then be able to copy them.

Not true you can have mixed partition types in Win2K and XP and see them both just fine.

FAT32 is your frien.

"a bunch of things and buttons" may not be your friend.

Passwords are not for those who can't remember anything. I have a friend here who wastes at least 10 hours a week flapping around, unable to access various email and other accts. In every case he's "almost sure" that the PW is[his first name].
