How do I install win2k pro to Dell latitude CPi with iether or cd or disk can only use one at a time. This would be a clean install. have C: prompt volume in drive d is disk1_vol1

Hello Bob!

You'll be needing a minimum of 2GB partition in order to install Windows 2000 Profesional.

Next you need to copy smartdrv.exe to your c:\> drive.

After that enter (in c:\>) the command
"lock c:" that you need to start the install.
After that enter the command "smartdrv" in c:\> which will activate SmartDrive.

After this you walk into your CD-ROM drive, on that into the i386 directory.
Enter command "winnt" and the install will take a spinn.

You have during the install have to make sure that you convert your drive to NTFS
to get the most out of Win. 2k.
If you forget this its not a disaster cause you can allways use the command
"convert c: /fs:nts" after installation at the command line.

To finish of apply ServicePack 4.0 and all post sp4 patches. After this you are ready to test Base Line Security tool from MS.

Sory to say but you well need them both to be successfull in this matter.

If possible you might try in BIOS to have the Dell boot aganst the CD-ROM but it will take 4-ever to install without smartdrive
