Subject: Not your everyday svchost problems
OS: Microsoft (R) Windows 200

Comment:

There is a really weird problem happening with my svchost.exe. There is only one process that is running it, Remote Procedure Call. Every other process that svchost runs dosent work these include the following:

Background Intelligent Transfer Service
COM+ Event System
Internet Connection Sharing
Network Connections
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Remote Access Connection Manager
Removable Storage
RIP Listener
Routing and Remote Access
System Event Notification
Telephony

In addition to Automatic Updates.

Now most of these services respond with the same error:
(1079)
The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.

But some errors are thus:
(1068)
The Dependency Service or Group Failed To Start

These strange looking entries in the System Event log might also be helpful:

DCOM got error "The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process. " attempting to start the service EventSystem with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}

DCOM got error "The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process. " attempting to start the service netman with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

I would really NOT format, except if its dyre but I have checked all of the logon tabs to make sure they were correct due to the fact I have been communicating with Microsoft Product Support Services for about a week on this issue, and they have told me to do this. I have reinstalled Windows, run sfc.exe, rebuilt the COM+ and Still nothing. I have a feeling that my ZoneAlarm firewall application is causing the error, becuase it ALL started when I installed a few months back. So I will uninstall and see what it does. Does anybody have some suggestions???

I have Now restarted in safe mode, and the services work! According to MS, they said to disable all Non Microsoft startup programs and services, and then start up in regular mode. I did that, but they STILL dont work.

Are any symantec products running? Uninstall them if they are. Next, download and run msconfig and disable everything in the startup folder and see if it still happens.
Before you tell me that msconfig doesn't run on w2k, it does. I have it on 3 machines.

I tried that, and I KNOW that msconfig was not installed nativly, but I downloaded it, got rid of all startup programs but it STILL does not work. I am not running any norton products on this computer, but I am running ZoneAlarm which I disabled, and it still doesnt work.
