Subject: 2000Svr to 2003Svr upgrade??

Comment:

I have LAN, consisting of a Win2000Server Domain Controller with DNS-RIS installed on it, another Win2000 Server that is a DHCP server for the LAN, and a couple Win2000Pro clients and a couple WinXP Pro clients.

I have this setup at home for learning purposes.

I want to move from Win2000Server to Win2003Server, but I am confused with the 2003 licensing requirements!!

For the 2000Server LAN I did not have to setup any Client Access Licensing for the clients to be able to access the 2000Server. Or with the Terminal Services.

With my reading into 2003Server It seems that I will need to have CAL for the 2003Server for a user/device to have access to the server software. And also for a client to use Terminal Services. Through my reading i would choose per user/device mode.
I have between 3-6 client computers.

Can anyone help me in figuring out this licensing with 2003 server?? I want to move away from 2000 Server and start learning the 2003Server version. Or is it even that big of a difference to even change from 2000 to 2003 server?

This is a home LAN that I am learning from for a potential job opening!!

The best place is to go to the MS site. Almost word for word on technet and other (and you have to search) pages are the questions for the certs. The MS site really has it all if you have time to look and search. The MS site has all sorts of labs and presentations and examples and live demos and you name it.

If you purchase the 70-29x series the data is there too with labs and setups and it will also take time. You do get a pdf copy of each book and a couple of other pdf books. Put them on a flash drive and you can find any question.

The other choices might be traditional schools to boot camps.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

I know how to setup the 2003 server, but its just the licensing that I am confused about. Is there a way for me to avoid licensing since this is just a home educational purpose network?

"Is there a way for me to avoid licensing"

No. By MS design. Unless you leave the 2000 server in place but joined to the forest. In 2003 you have to pay for TS access.

I have a 150 TS clients. You know how happy I was with MS when we went from 2000 to 2003

Imagine the power of knowing how to internet search
