Comment: I just installed win2003 server and cannot connect to the network. I am connected to comcast cable modem directly with no router. I cannot get an IP assigned. When I manually enter IP info I cannot ping the gateway. Ethernet device is working properly, thought I did try both a 3COM and Intel NIC with the same results. And verified the ethernet cable. Other machines work fine when I unplug the server and plug them into the cable modem. What do I try next?

Reply: Clone the mac address of the nic on the work ing machine to the nic on the nonworking machine. All that work when a router would have them all connected. Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?
