My current situation is:
I have an existing 2k DC with AD. I have been trying to add a second 2k3 DC. Firstly I added it in as a new dc in a new forest. I realised my mistake with the help of the forum and then dcpromo'd it. I have also run adprep forestprep on the 2k DC.
Currently: I am trying to dcpromo the 2k3 DC into the existing AD and I am having DNS problems.
The error I'm getting is the RCODE_NAME_ERROR and that possibly the SRV registers needed to find the dc are not registered.
I have the pref. DNS of the 2k3 DC pointing to the IP of the 2k DC.
There's got to be ab easier way to do this? Any suggestions?

p.s. I havent run adprep domainprep yet, could that be the problem?

I have run domain prep on the w2k dc.
I have reinstalled w2k3 on the second dc.
I have added it to the domain, using my pc, properties.
I can sucessfully ping the w2k dc from the w2k3 dc using its ip but not with its full domain address....
I also have the w2k3 dc's dns pointing to the ip of the first w2k dc.
One thing I think I may have to change, the w2k dc is not pointing to itself as dns, instead to an address like 194.179.1.101 I didnt set it up, so have no idea why, isp maybe? should I change this to the servers actual ip address? would this have any negative effects on my current network?
I have also received a message on my w2k from the w2k3 regarding licence issues!...
I keep searching but still haven't cracked this one, any ideas greatfuly apreciated.

Change your DNS setting in W2K to point to itself and make the W2K3 as secondary DNS if it is also running DNS services. Do not use public DNS on your DC, it will not be able to resolve properly.

I now have my w2k's dns pointing to itself. Now when I ping the w2k from the w2k3 using both ip and full domain name I get a response for both.
When I run the w2k3 "continue the installation wizard" that was created on my desktop, when I'm asked for internal domain information I supply the DNS, the NetBIOS and the pc name. I get the following error "the netbios specified already exists on the network, choose another name for the domain"?
I try the dcpromo again, adding my server as an aditional dc in an exiting domain. I can see the domain on the list I choose it and go to next and get an error.
The dns name does not exist RCODE_NAME_ERROR same trouble as before...
Any suggestions?

I went to the w2k and added my new 2k3 dc as a dc in the ad.
