Our internal domain users have a need to e-mail external users with using the same domain name and this works fine. However if I create a contact for them and then include them in a distibution group i get

" a configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients"

This only happens to the external contacts using the same domain name as any other contact using a different domain name in the same distribution group works fine...?

Am I adding the contact incorrectly as I am putting their SMTP address into it..?

Any idea what I have missed

Thanks

Why are you putting Contacts smtp information in? You should be entering the email address and that's all. SMTP is outgoing server, and you don't need that if the email is being sent from one of your users to someone else.

Many Thanks for the reply..
what do I then set the e-mail type as when creating a contact if not SMTP..?

As I say this contact uses the same domain name as users on the exchange but is external so when I use my distribution group i want to be able to be able to mail both the internal & external users with the same domain name..

Thanks again

What exactly do you mean by "Contact?" Contacts are address book entries. Do you mean you have users who are part of the organization, but are not on site? Is that what you mean by Contact?

If so, are these remote users connecting to your network by VPN? Perhaps more detailed information would be helpful.

Thanks again,

Yes these contacts are part of the organisation but are not on the site. However they do use the same email address extention as those on the site.

They do not have a vpn connection as they only need mail, and this mail they collect directly from a pop3 address from the domain hoster not from the exchange server.

Thanks again for your efforts..
