I have three PC's in my home and a windows 2003 file server I just setup. The three PC's have windows xp home so I can't get them on a domain.

Is it possible to use external computers for usernames to use for folder security? Let me explain by using my situation:

Computer 1:
Name: Chris
Username accessing pc:
Chris

Computer 2:
Name:PC101
Usernames accessing PC:
mom
mary
john

Computer 3: Laptop
Usernames acessing PC
Chris
Mom

Server:
Folder #1:
Shared folder
Users I want to access it:
Chris\Chris
pc101\mom
pc101\john
pc101\mary
laptop\chris
laptop\mom

Private folder for me:
Users allowed to access
chris\chris
laptop\chris

ect....

So is this possible?

Although XP home cannot be added to a domain. It CAN access domain resources. You can map a drive or folder and the user can access this using a DOMAIN user account.

OP has stated he has XPHome, which cannot be joined to a Domain.

cd you said "Is it possible to use external computers for usernames to use for folder security?" No. You can't set permissions based on computers.

Just out of curiosity, why did you purchase Server when you can't really utilize all the features? Seems like a waste of money to me.
