Subject: Hang on applying computr settingOS: win2003 SVRCPU/Ram: 3.2Mhz / 2Gb |
Comment: I have had a domain with 2 Win2003 svrs and many XP clients running for 3 yrs. Today one of the Win2003 boxes was rebooted - it keeps hanging on "applying computer settings".
any ideas? I read somewhere i could try one of the following: ) Running "netdom reset". My batch file for this is "NETDOM.exe move %computername% /Domain:<insert domain> /UserD:* /PasswordD:* /UserO:* /PasswordO:* /REBoot:1" OR 2) Boot into safe mode with network, remove the machine from the domain (join a workgroup, AND make sure the local admin account is active and you know the password.), Reboot (wait for the "saving settings" to complete on the shutdown, it can take 4-8 minutes) and after reboot, logon with local admin rights and rejoin the domain. heeeylp, this is a critical system and i am going to cry.

Reply: Did you apply any new policies to this server or the domain in general recently? "Republicans in Congress are moving to ratify a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning, thus ending the Iraq insurgency."

Reply: I have been having the same issue with a client's Windows server 2003 machine since around the 4th of August, '05. I am wondering if it is an update which was applied through Automatic Updates. Have you noticed any new updates on your affected machine? Have you resolved the issue?

Reply: Ok, I may have found a solution. It looks to be APC that is causing the issues due to the use of Java. You can find the solution via this link: http://forums.winxpcentral.com/showthread.php?p=35046#post35046 It seems many, many people found out the hard way about the APC issues. Hope this helps you out as well.

Reply: Yes it is a DC along with the other (working) 2003 box. What if i have no APC software on it? i am scared to demote it from being a DC as it might kill the whole domain?

Reply: If you don't have the APC software, your server won't gracefully shutdown automatically in the event of a power failure. "Republicans in Congress are moving to ratify a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning, thus ending the Iraq insurgency."

Reply: I had the same exact problem yesterday morning. Boot into Safe Mode, see if you have any APC services, if so, disable and reboot.

Reply: I have a similar problem that just started Friday (9/23). Only this also affects the workstations attached to the netword. Server is 2003 but workstations are w2k. Thing is, only some of the stations are involved. If I unjack the workstations from the net, they boot normally, then can be reconnected and everything works. Server boots normally if I disconnect the LAN cable or disable the NIC. I don't have APC, but Belkin's APC manager. Uninstalled the Belkin software and rebooted, but server still hung up.
