Comment: We have a 2003 network with DC and clients, I am puzzled at why I can join our domain with a xp machine with any domain users if I logon locally as admin then join domain by just typing in any user in the Ad, I thought I have to have domain administator rights to join the machine to the domain controller and not just a domain user. Is there some settings set wrong?

Reply: Can you check your Domain Admin Groups? Make sure that Domain Users are not a member of Domain Admin.

Reply: You may have inadvertently given Domain Users the privileges to add workstations to the Domain. "So won’t you give this man his wings What a shame To have to beg you to see We’re not all the same What a shame" - Shinedown

Reply: I have checked, the domain user group or the user I have use to join the domain after I log in as local admin of the client machine is not a member of anyone and the DNS is pointing to our DC, so maybe it is suppose to be able to join the domain since I am the admin of the local machine?
