Hi all,

Question :

Got a Windows 2003 Forest.
Domain1 (Parent Domain in the Forest)
Domain2 (Child Domain in the Forest)

Domain1's server is the DNS for the first domain, with two NICs (LAN and WAN -> LAN:192.168.1.11 - 255.255.255.0 and WAN: 10.10.1.1 - 255.255.255.0)

Domain2's server is the DNS for the child domain with one NIC (LAN: 10.10.1.100 - 255.0.0.0).

Can these two networks "talk" ?? Cause I cant do it till now..

Must I setup Routing and Remote Access on the parent domain server? and how am I going to do that?

As you see Im not so familiar with routing and If you please help me? I try to learn..

Thanks guys!

Digital Family.

Well, first of all.. you should have a router in between if you want to talk between 2 different subnets. Or you can add a 2nd NIC into Domain 2 using the same subnet as domain 1.

What is the gateway you're using for Domain 1 WAN NIC? What is the gateway used for Domain 2 NIC? What are they connecting through?

Ok,let's see..

Server1, NIC1 : ip.192.168.1.1 GW:10.10.1.1
Server1, NIC2 : ip.10.10.1.1 GW:itself

Server2, NIC1 : ip.10.10.2.1 GW:itself

they are connecting through a 3com switch.

I ve been working around with Windows 2003 routing, I placed some static routes in the routing table and I am in a phase where i can ping from one server to another (by ip or by FQDN not by computer name).

I think its a DNS misconfiguration...right ?

Well technically since they're in 2 different domains you shouldn't be able to ping by name. You can add aliases in DNS if you want to be able to ping by name though. Sounds like you have things under control now. Good luck.
