Hi all, newbie here, please bear with me. I'm trying to set up Server 2003 as a virtual machine inside VMWare Workstation 6 and have no experience with either :)and am unable to get internet connectivity. Here are the details:

Host machine is running XP Pro SP3, on a small network with two PCs and 2 Macs. All computers are getting IP addresses through DHCP from a Linksys router. The Server 2003 virtual machine is able to see and be seen by all the other hosts on the local network. However, the Server 2003 virtual machine (we'll call it the VMX) can't see the internet.

Checking ipconfig/all on the VMX, I see that DHCP is enabled and that an IP address, default gateway, subnet mask, and DNS servers are all assigned. However, Windows IP configuration shows Node Type=unknown and IP Routing Enabled=No.

I've tried setting the VMWare Ethernet setting to Bridged, NAT, and Custom (VMNet8) with no changes.

The startup screen on the VMX has a shortcut to a Security Configuration Wizard. When I run that wizard, it tells me that I need to run the "Configure E-Mail and Internet Connection Wizard", supposedly available from Start/Server Management/Internet and E-Mail/Connect to the Internet. Unfortunately, I see no such path available... I have Start/Manage Your Server or Start/Administrative Tools/Server Management available; neither one of these leads to "Internet and E-Mail/Connect to the Internet". Googling for the "Configure E-Mail and Internet Connection Wizard" finds references to a To-Do List, which I can't find anywhere in the system.

Anyway, I'm stuck. There must be a setting in Server 2003 that I've missed.

Oh, the server has been configured with roles as File Server, Domain Controller, and DNS Server.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Never mind, figured it out! Wonderful MS "enhanced security" settings block most internet connectivity, even for administrators.
Thanks anyway!
