Subject: unable to renew ip addressOS: Win server 2003CPU/Ram: anyManufacturer/Model: any |
Comment: I have an isa2004 server running on win 2003. 2 net cards: I'm connecting my dsl modem to one network card and the other network card is for local use. Everything was fine. today I noticed that no internet connection so i checked my isa server and the the connection icon on the system tray of the nic that is connected to dsl modem is saying that it failed to acquire network address with a question mark on it. I have tried my modem on the laptop and no problem.
I have tried different NICs on the server and still the same problem, so the problem isn't with my net card. I even tried the a static local connection and no problem with that.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Reply: sorry paulsep, it seems that you haven't read my post well...I told you I have tried the modem on different pc (laptop), and I have tried the same cable, modem, server, nic combination for local network with static ip given and it works. I think my problem is something with windows.

Reply: "I have tried my modem on the laptop and no problem." What ip did you get? "Everything was fine." How long are we talking here? hours, days, months? "I even tried the a static local connection and no problem with that." That makes no sense. If getting dhcp from modem what does the above statement mean? Have you looked at the servers firewall configuration? Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

Reply: The statement about static ip means that i stopped the dhcp and tried static ip to make sure that my network card and my tcp/ip stack is ok...and they are ok. As for the duration It was only fine for 1 day. Anyway, I have solved the problem and it was something related to the isa server. I modified System Policy Rule to allow the ISA Server 2004 firewall to communicate with DHCP servers on the External network because the External interface uses DHCP to obtain IP addressing information and isa doesn't allow this by default. But what cofused me was that when the problem occured, I stopped every service related to the isa server from running and still couldn't acquire an address!!!!!!! Thank you for helping.
