Hi,
I want to connect my member server windows 2003 with the DC with is also windows 2003 server. The problem with the computer which is going be a member server is when i write the domain name which is "test.local" it show an error message. I then click on "more" and write the DC name"text.local" in "Primary DNS suffix of this computer" with DC name "text.local" .Press ok and in domain name box i write text it show me a message to Restart the nachine.

Well the thing behind this which is not clear that why the computer not connect direct when i write the DC name "test.local" in the domain box and it take only the word "test" and remaining in the "Primary DNS suffix " with "text.local".

please just explain me what is the purpose of "Primary DNS suffix" and why and in which and situation it is used.

thanks.

By default, the primary DNS suffix portion of a computer's FQDN is the same as the name of the Active Directory domain to which the computer is joined.

The "Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes" button causes the client name (the machine name) to be appended to the domain name automatically. For example, if your primary DNS suffix was "you.com" and you pinged "xyz" the computer would query "xyz.you.com"

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10
