Subject: Basic networking questionOS: Windows Server 2008CPU/Ram: 3.2 GHz Xeon 2GBManufacturer/Model: Dell 2850 |
Comment: I'm trying to bring up Windows Server 2008 to verify that a software product I have still works there, but basic networking functions I'm used on Windows Server 2003 don't seem to be around - things like My Network Places, where I can right-click, Search for Computers, and find another computer on the LAN. My 2008 server is connected to a LAN and gets out to the Internet ok. And other computers on the LAN can find the 2008 server (by right-clicking Search for Computers and entering the computer's name) but I don't see any way to get the 2008 server to find other computers. I know this is basic and I'm overlooking something, but could someone perhaps point me in the right direction and save me reading through a bunch of 500-page 2008 books? Thanks for any help.

Reply: I'm not really sure, but is win 2008 server running a firewall by default? And as I know, Microsoft had learned a bit of networking and firewalling and sets firewall to deny all and only let traffic pass thru, which has been permitted by the administrator. Did you checked that?

Reply: You can setup the WINS server on win 2008 machine and connect all PCs to it to create a centralized user PCs list RS
