Hi

Was told to put this in the 2008 section instead of 2003:

We have 2 x domain Controller 2003 server and 1 2003 member server on our network but running out of storage space in the main DC, instead of getting a storage cage for the main server with a raid controller card to take SAS HD we decided to get another server with 8 empty HD slots which was about the same price as the external cage, the new 2008 server is basically for storage, we will also move the backup tape and all data across from the main 2003 server to the new 2008 server. Was told to do this incase the main 2003 DC failes with all data in it, it has a backup tape drive also rather than buying a extra storage cage that can take 13 SAS HD. I needed to move the tape drive as if I backup the data from another server across the network will take a very long time.

The question is do I need to downgrade 2008 server to 2003 so they are all running 2003, also do I need to join it as a domain controller or do I just use it as a member 2008 server, I want to be able to use the AD and set folder permission also so the client map their folders to their home drive.

thanks

"The question is do I need to downgrade 2008 server to 2003 so they are all running 2003" I don't think that you would need that but it up to you because i don't think it would make a difference, "also do I need to join it as a domain controller or do I just use it as a member 2008 server, I want to be able to use the AD and set folder permission also so the client map their folders to their home drive." you could do that i mean make it as a second DC that works as a backup for the old one incase it fails so you get the new one up and runing ;)
Cheers
