Reply: Echo that 128Meg is not inadquate for '98. A colleague some time confirmed (and found info on the www to support him too) that above 64Meg RAM for '98 the benefits are hardly noticeable, in average useage... A Pentium-2 will do OK with a CD-burner. It will just burn more slowly overall than a more current spec. cpu - which is no serious event anyway...? And as the PC in question here is a P-3... it ought to do even better? (I have in an elderly DEll P-2/233MgHrz - and was fine with a CD-burner and 128Meg RAM - although now using 364Meg RAM). Not sure about a dvd-burner though; but probably OK too - again as the PC in question is P-3?

Reply: I'm running an old 10X burner on a P-I 233 with 96 meg RAM and Nero 5.5. So you shouldn't have any problems putting one in your system. If you do go with a DVD burner make sure to check its minimum requirements before buying it.

Reply: You still need to check the minimum requirements for the drive you buy. The software that comes bundled with the burner may not work with Win98 either. You need to verify that. I'm not an Intel person so I don't know off hand where P3 started out on clock speeds abut I would guess that you should be able to get a DVD burner to work. You may need to use a utility that comes with some versions of burner software that slows the drive down to match the processor. As I mentioned above Everest home can tell you what processor is installed in that computer.

Reply: Just to add to the above, I have gotten a P2-333 machine to use a CDRW burner. Unless you are installing an older drive I don't think you will find any drives that only do CD.

Reply: My elderly Dell P-2/233 runs a cdrw fine (320Meg RAM installed). It runs it a slower rate than HP offer with this equally elderly (by current standards) burner; but it does just fine.
