Guide to the Search Engine

Note: The search engine database is only updated once per week. If you are looking for a message posted less than a week ago, you might not find it.

Finding Exact Phrases
If you would like to find an exact phrase in a post listed on Computing.Net, you should enclose your search phrase in quotation marks. For example, to locate a page containing the phrase Windows XP Server, you would enter "Windows XP Server" Most of the time your phrase will not be so general. The exact phrase search is also very useful for those wishing to find a specific message. If you know the title of the message, enter the entire title exactly as it appears in the post as an exact phrase search.

Finding Posts By Name
If you would like to find posts by the poster's name, you should enter the person's name enclosed in quotation marks in addition to any other search phrases you desire. For example, to locate a page containing the phrase Windows XP Server and posted by Justin Weber, you would enter "Justin Weber" AND "Windows XP Server" The AND is necessary, it tells the search to only locate messages containing both the phrase Windows XP Server and the phrase Justin Weber.

Finding Posts By Date
If you would like to find posts by the date in which the message was posted, you should enter the date enclosed in quotation marks in addition to any other search phrases you desire. For example, to locate a post made on April 12, 2003 containing the phrase Windows XP Server and posted by Justin Weber, you would enter "April 13, 2003" AND "Justin Weber" AND "Windows XP Server" If you only know the month and the year, simply enter the phrase "April 2003"
